In regards to Republican politics delays Coast aid

I spent the month of October in Louisiana, supporting efforts there. As a New Yorker, who had never been to the Gulf Coast, I was impressed with the pluckiness, resilience, and intelligence of the people I met. My heart and hopes go out to all Americans hurt by this terrible catastrophe.

As a former lifelong Republican, I sympathize with Brian Essex. The question the people of Mississippi might want to ask themselves is this... If I vote for the party that says, in the words of Ronald Reagan, that "government is the problem," then what can I expect when I need the government's help? If they do a good job of helping, doesn't that just hurt their campaign against government? Maybe it's time to put some of your eggs in a different basket.

Respectfully,
