Sometimes is helps if you add something heartfelt to the beginning of the email... in addition to the suggested letter.

I wrote McNulty... here is my introduction...

I am sending this message due to my grave concern about the future of
our democracy and our very way of life. As a rule, people seldom fully
comprehend the scope of governmental abuses of power while they are
happening. If this is true, then President Bush's domestic spying
program is merely the tip of the iceberg. As yet another New Yorker
directly impacted by the events of 9/11, I find it ironic that, with
President Bush's help, Osama bin Laden is succeeding in his efforts to
take away our freedom.

My question for you is simple. Do you support the President's efforts
to turn us away from our Constitution and take us back to a time when
life was nastier, more brutish, and shorter, or do you value democracy
and the American way of life?
