CD14 Petition to Stop Funding the Iraq War

Submitted by Jim McCabe on 2008, April 17 - 6:59am.

Petition to Stop Funding the Iraq War

With Congressional debate on a $100 billion supplemental appropriation for the war in Iraq at hand and voting to take place in late April / early May, we need to let Congress know now: NO MORE FUNDING FOR WAR. Please help us deliver this message to Congresswoman Maloney by gathering petition signatures from residents in your area. The petition form can be downloaded at: http://www.pdanewyork.org/files/pdanewyork/IraqWarFundingPetitionCD14.doc

Please gather as many signatures as you can and return them by mail to the address at the bottom of the form. We would like to deliver the first batch of signed petitions to Congresswoman Maloney the week of April 21st – before the vote takes place – so please aim to return them that week. Other PDA chapters can easily modify the petition form for their member of Congress and identify a point person to receive / deliver the signed petitions.

Maloney Agrees to Talk to Pelosi, Conyers, Nadler about Impeachment
New York, NY
February 4, 2008

On February 4, 2008, Jim McCabe and Veronica Borrer, representing a broader coalition of activists supporting impeachment, met with Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney [NY-14] and Minna Elias, her New York chief of staff, at Maloney’s Upper East Side offices in Manhattan. The meeting came on the heels of a letter sent to Maloney on December 23 and signed by ten members of Progressive Democrats of New York, Congressional District 14 (PDNYCD14). The purpose of the meeting was to persuade Maloney to call for hearings on H.Res. 799, articles of impeachment against Vice President Cheney, introduced by Congressman Dennis Kucinich and co-sponsored by 23 members of Congress.

PDNYCD14 Asks Maloney to Support Impeachment Hearings for Cheney

Submitted by Jim McCabe on 2008, January 1 - 11:47pm.

On December 23, 2007, some ten members of Progressive Democrats of New York, Congressional District 14 (PDNYCD14) wrote to Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney urging her to support impeachment hearings for Vice President Cheney. PDNYCD14 is a local chapter of Progressive Democrats of America.

Prompted by a letter that the Congresswoman had sent to one of their members regarding her stand on impeachment, the PDNYCD14 activists noted they were pleased that Maloney had voted against the motion to table HR 799 and had supported the motion to send it to the Judiciary Committee. “But you must be aware that Committee Chairman Conyers has announced his opposition to any impeachment effort, and --we understand--has the support of one of your New York delegation colleagues, Jerry Nadler. That doesn't bode well for any fair hearing,” the activists wrote.

New Yorkers for Kucinich

Submitted by Jim McCabe on 2007, December 24 - 2:42pm.

In October, Progressive Democrats of New York, Congressional District 14 (PDNYCD14) endorsed Dennis Kucinich for President. Several chapter members subsequently joined with the NYC Meetup Group for Kucinich, working successfully to get registered Democrats to sign petitions to get Dennis on the ballot for New York 's February 5th primary. Charlene Barker organized this successful effort as the NYC organizer and coordinator for Kucinich. This group is now functioning as the statewide Kucinich Meetup Group. We need people to contact potential supporters statewide to urge them to vote for Dennis on February 5th.

NY CD 14 Endorses Kucinich

Submitted by Jim McCabe on 2007, October 31 - 3:23pm.

New York City, October 30, 2007
NEW YORK CITY PDA CD 14 ENDORSES DENNIS KUCINICH FOR PRESIDENT!
Last night, in an overwhelming show of support, local democrats voted to endorse Dennis J. Kucinich for the Democratic Presidential nomination.

Citing his voting record, which is strongly and unwaveringly anti-war, his health care plan which is single payer and not for profit, his support of Social Security, education, and his position on the elimination of NAFTA among other very important issues to the American people, Progressive Democrats of New York, 14th Congressional District (PDNYCD14) gave its endorsement to this great candidate. The 14th Congressional District encompasses the East Side of Manhattan, Roosevelt Island, and, in Queens, Astoria, much of Long Island City, Sunnyside and parts of Woodside.
